The World of Kindermusik in Columbus, MS

Archive for March 2007

As I was checking my email today, I came across a wonderful article in Early Childhood News detailing the wonderful and amazing benefits of music and movement related to language development.  I really learned quite a bit from reading this article.  For instance, did you know that language begins before birth.  Maryann Harman writes, “At 23 days [...]

SOMEONE said…

Somebody said it takes about six weeks to get back to normal after you’ve had a baby .
Somebody doesn’t know that once you’re a mother, “
Normal,” is history.
Somebody said you learn how to be a mother by instinct
Somebody never took a three-year-old shopping.
Somebody said being a mother is boring …… Somebody [...]

Spring is officially here!  The trees are blooming, the sun is shining, the allergies are going crazy (I know some of you can appreciate this!), and the weather is perfect to be outside.  March 21st kicked off our first day of Spring and to celebrate this wonderful season Kindermusik will be hosting a FREE storytime at [...]

Paper or Art?

This week in our Imagine That! classes the students have been asked to bring in sculptures that they have made.  While working with Claire on hers this past weekend, I ran across a link to an Jen Stark, an artist who uses construction paper to make sculptures!  Who would have thought!  You can truly find [...]

I hope you all are enjoying this glorious St. Patrick’s day and wearing a little hint of green somewhere!  Coming from a very strong Irish background (as if the red hair didn’t give it away), I felt compelled to send a little Irish your way!  Below are some great resources for fun things to do [...]

Grown-Up Music for Kids

Posted by: Cathy Portele on: Wednesday, March 14, 2007

I’ve posted before about music that is written and sung for kids, but has a bit of a parent spin on it.  In other words no Barney I Love You songs, but instead songs like Buzz, Buzz by Laurie Berkner.  This music is all wonderful and makes the kids jump up and down and sing, [...]

In the most recent edition of Wondertime magazine, there is an excellent article written by Rani Arbo, a mother of a toddler and a musician.  She describes her summer experiences in both Kindermusik and Music Together with her son, Quinn and came to some excellent conclusions.
Here they are:
Given a good teacher, even a picky parent can’t [...]

Daylight Savings is THIS Weekend!

Posted by: Cathy Portele on: Saturday, March 10, 2007

Daylight savings time comes three weeks earlier this year.  Don’t forget to move your clocks one hour forward at 2AM on Sunday the 11th.  Yes, it does mean one hour less sleep and readjusting the kids, but it also means more hours of sunlight and time to play outside!  Just in time for Spring Break!
