With the upcoming drum circle event going on at the Rosensweig in a couple of weeks, I wanted to give all of you a brief explanation of what a drum circle really is. I personally have never been to one, so I am VERY excited about attending the Rhythm in the Round at the Rosensweig on the 13th.
According to an article by Arthur Hull, the father of the modern day community drum circles, “
The Community Drum Circle is the use of a rhythm-based event as a tool for unity. It is NOT a drum class. It’s NOT using culturally-specific rhythms. A community drum circle in the United States is a fun, family friendly event, where people empower each other in the act of celebrating community and life through rhythm and music. People of all levels of musical expertise come together and share their rhythmical spirit with what ever drums and percussion they bring to the event. They don’t have to be a drummer to participate. Everyone has something to offer the circle, and any one is welcome.”
What a fabulous event to not only strengthen community bonds, but also the show how music really does connect all of us no matter age, ethnicity, gender, or social status. I do hope you will consider joining us that evening for something really fun!
