National Pig Day recognizes and gives thanks to domesticated pigs. For some unknown reason, big, pot-bellied pigs seen in zoos, are often the symbol of the day. Pigs are clever and intelligent animals. But, most people are unaware of this high level of intelligence. They can be taught to do tricks. Some people even keep them as pets. Today is a day to give pigs the respect that they deserve.

National Pig day is celebrated by zoos, too. Activities include Snort Offs, Pig Outs, and online Pig Chats. However you choose, do not miss celebrating this day.

Here’s some great craft ideas for the day too:

  • Make pig tails by cutting a pink circle around and around toward the middle and then taping it onto the back of your pants.
  • Make a pig ear head band.
  • Make pig snouts to wear out of empty toilet tissue rolls.
  • Make a 3 Little Pigs scene out of straw, popcicle sticks, etc.
  • Make pigs out of pink clay.
  • Have the children make pink thumbprints on a piece of paper and then make the prints into pigs.
  • Cut pig shapes out of pink construction paper and let the kids add some brown finger paint (mud).
  • We’ll be celebrating the day with ham for dinner, not sure if that’s what they mean by celebrating, but we’ll enjoy it!  Thanks piggies!!!
